Friedrich Nietzsche Beyond Good and Evil, translated from German by R.J. Hollingdale with an introduction by Michael Tanner at Penguin Classics.
Beyond Good and Evil confirms Nietzsche as the greatest European philosopher of his time. This work radically rejects the tradition of Western thought with the concepts of truth and God, good and evil. Nietzsche pointed out that Christendom has become infected with false piety and “slave morality”. With reason and force, this criticism became the philosophy that defines the present and demands that the individual acknowledges his “freedom” in the world.

Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) became chair of classical philology at the University of Basel at the age of 24, until ill health forced him to retire in 1879. In 1899, he withdrew from society until he lost his mind. A powerfully original thinker, Nietzsche had a significant influence on later writers such as George Bernard Shaw, D.H. Lawrence, Thomas Mann, and Jean-Paul Sartre.
